About the University of California, Davis

The University of California, Davis (UC Davis) is a public, 4-year school that traces its history back to 1868 when it first achieved recognition as a chartered, land-grant university. Initial construction on the college campus took place within the town of Davisville, which later changed its name to Davis in 1907. In the 2012 edition of America's Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report ranked UC Davis 9th in their listing of top public research universities in the country.

Academics

UC Davis is among one of only 61 universities within North American achieving admission into the Association of American Universities. There are four colleges and six professional schools at UC Davis. The university is home to 102 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate programs.

UC Davis is an avid supporter of sustainability efforts in the areas of research and instruction, projects of which include the UC Davis West Village, a community designed for sustainable living. The university library supports a large collection of more than 3.9 million books, in addition to over 50,000 electronic resources, including journals and databases.

Admissions

Students seeking admission to UC Davis must submit their official test scores for the ACT Assessment and Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test. To meet the necessary requirements to be considered for a scholarship, selective criteria include a GPA of 3.0 or above for California residents and a GPA of 3.4 or above for nonresidents, within selected high school courses taken during the tenth and eleventh grades.

Students seeking to enroll as undergraduate students must complete both the admission and scholarship applications online by November 30. UC Davis reviews and accepts applications based upon a set of 14 criteria standards when considering students for admission. Factors include academic achievement, test scores, awards, leadership capabilities, and accomplishments.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition and fees during 2012-2013 for undergraduate students residing on campus were $13,877, plus room and board expenses at a rate of $13,503. Nonresident undergraduate students paid $36,755 in tuition and fees and $13,503 for room and board during 2012-2013. Rates for graduate students vary among the different programs.
