  • Maricopa Skill Center offers a basic metal repair or refinishing certificate program. The school also offers auto metal repair and auto metal refinishing training as individual programs. Many of the programs at Maricopa Skill Center can be completed in one year or less. This school is just two miles from downtown Phoenix.
  • About 16 miles from the city center, East Valley Institute of Technology offers collision repair programs for both adults and high school students during the day or evening. The training programs can prepare students for various industry certifications.

Maricopa Skill Center

Maricopa Skill Center (MSC) has been providing education and workforce training programs since 1962. The center offers auto body refinishing and repair certificate programs as well as a basic program for students who are unsure of which repair path to choose. Students who complete any of the programs can earn points that count toward several Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) certifications. Applicants to all three of the programs must have clean driving records and be able to lift 50 pounds.

Auto Body Basic Metal Refinishing Certificate

This program is focused on teaching students how to refinish and paint damaged vehicles. Students can learn how to mix paints and gain skills in masking, sanding and buffing vehicles. The program can be completed in 23 weeks.

Auto Body Basic Metal Repair Certificate

Students who complete this 27-week program can learn how to repair bumpers, remove dents and use plastic fillers. This program focuses on fixing damage to vehicles and does not cover painting and refinishing the repaired surfaces.

Basic Metal Repair or Refinishing Certificate

This one-year program prepares students to work in an auto body repair shop. As part of the training, students repair a collision-damaged vehicle and restore it to its pre-collision condition. In addition to learning basic metal repair and refinishing, participants learn shop safely methods and proper handling of hazardous materials.

East Valley Institute of Technology

The East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) has adult and high school auto collision programs available. High school students within the school's district are able to attend the classes for free.

Collision Repair Program

The collision repair program for adults is held at the school's main campus in Mesa. The program takes one year to complete, with evening classes held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The program meets standards set by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and I-CAR. Students obtain preparation to take ASE certification exams. The collision repair program for high school students is approved by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Applicants for this program should have good math skills. The daytime high school program is also available to adults, but high school students are given preference for available spots in the program.
