Auto Mechanic School Options in Las Vegas
The College of Southern Nevada is located in Las Vegas and offers three certificate programs and one associate's degree program for aspiring auto mechanics. Students in these programs learn how to repair and maintain automobiles; they can also prepare for certification exams offered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

Auto Mechanic Programs at the College of Southern Nevada
The College of Southern Nevada currently offers four automotive technology training opportunities. Students can choose between an associate's degree program and three specialized certificate programs. All of the programs include some hands-on lab work to go along with classroom instruction.
Certificate of Achievement in Automotive Technology - Diagnostic Specialist Emphasis
This 31-credit certificate program can prepare students for work as engine diagnostic technicians. Students learn about safety procedures and how to use power tools and diagnostic equipment. Courses include engine repair, engine performance and automotive electronics and electricity. Students also get some practice replacing batteries and repairing vehicle computer systems. Upon completion of the program, students are ready to obtain the State of Nevada Class 1G smog inspector license.
Certificate of Achievement in Automotive Technology - Heavy-line Specialist Emphasis
Students in this 30-credit certificate program are taught how to diagnose and repair manual and automatic transmissions, transaxles, clutches and differentials. Students also learn how to service engines. The program prepares students to take ASE exams in automatic transmissions, electrical, engine repair and manual transmissions.
Certificate of Achievement in Automotive Technology - Auto Maintenance & Light Repair Emphasis
The 31-credit auto maintenance and light repair certificate program prepares students for work on regular vehicles, as well as alternative fuel and hybrid automobiles. The program covers battery repair, mechanical diagnosis and engine service. Students also learn how to repair brake, steering, suspension and heating systems. The program prepares students for ASE exams in engine repair, heating and air conditioning, brakes, electrical and suspension. Students can pursue a State of Nevada Class 1G smog inspector license as well.
Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology
This 75-credit associate's degree program in automotive technology is taught by ASE master-certified technicians. The curriculum includes classes in engine repair, brakes, automatic transmissions and automotive electricity. In addition to coursework, students participate in an internship that complements their classroom learning with industry experience. Students who complete the program are prepared to take multiple ASE exams.
