Bakersfield College

One of the nation's oldest community colleges, Bakersfield College offers career and technical associate degree and certificate programs. Certificate options include, but aren't limited to, carpentry, fire technology, culinary arts, plant science, emergency medical technology and real estate. Some associate degree concentrations include architectural drafting, horticulture, business administration, food service management, digital arts, journalism, physical education and anthropology. Bakersfield College also has a number of student organizations, including business, theater, architect, math and agriculture clubs. Students can attend traditional weekday classes, or explore the college's evening, weekend and online options.

California State University Bakersfield

The 375-acre campus of California State University Bakersfield houses departments for mathematics, education, business, social sciences, humanities, public administration and social sciences. Students can choose from more then 30 undergraduate and 15 graduate degree programs, as well as multiple credential programs. Bachelor's and master's degree programs are offered in various areas, such as physical education and kinesiology, economics, criminal justice, biology, counseling psychology, teaching mathematics, marketing, modern languages, computer science and geology. As of the 2009-2010 academic year, a doctorate in education is also available.

Taft College

Taft College is located within 30 miles of Bakersfield and offers a number of associate degree and certificate programs. Possible areas of study include industrial health and safety, graphic design, automotive technology, early childhood education, criminal justice administration and physical science. Students have access to a variety of programs and opportunities, such as textbook rental, scholarship programs, academic counseling, community workshops and a transfer center. Unlike many community colleges, Taft College has a residence hall that houses around 200 students.
