Banking Schools and Universities in the U.S.
Students earning a degree with a banking emphasis can elect to pursue either a Bachelor of Business Administration with a banking emphasis (BBA) or a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.). When selecting schools, students should look at courses offered, degree types and available opportunities for internships.
How to Select a Banking School
Banking schools and universities typically offer either a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in banking. This type of degree is aimed at students wishing to pursue a career in financial institutions.
A BBA degree program covers banking theory and management. A student who wants to earn a BBA in banking takes courses concentrating on the managerial aspects involved with banking and financial management. Students learn how to plan and evaluate a company's financial performance, preparing them for a managerial position.
With a B.S. in banking, finance or related fields, students learn the fundamentals of banking in financial institutions. A B.S. focuses less on business and management than a BBA program. Students interested in working as bankers, investment specialists or finance experts can choose a B.S. program.
Course topics for these degree paths include financial analysis, forecasting, banking, economics and finance. Some B.S. degrees in banking or finance can be earned online, which may be convenient for students with full-time jobs or other commitments. Schools that have partnerships with banks may offer students internship or practicum opportunities.
