The schools on this list are recognized by the state and prepare students for the licensure process that all Ohio barbers must go through before practicing. In general, students need to earn 1,800 hours of training from a state-approved barber school. Students who receive sufficient training and pass an examination qualify for a barber license in Ohio.

Allstate Hairstyling and Barber College

Located in Cleveland, this school offers a barber training program for students who are preparing for the licensure process. The program typically takes a year to complete. As part of training, students learn how to cut, style and color hair for men and women. The program features guest speakers and live demonstrations so that students learn from professionals.

Dayton Barber College

This Miamisburg offers a barber training program for students who are new to the field. Lessons cover sanitation, barbering history, ethics and chemistry. There's an emphasis on business management, salesmanship and human relations. Students learn various techniques to style hair for men and women. There is also training on how to color hair, use razors and apply facials.

Ohio State College of Barber Styling

Students who enroll in this Columbus training program learn about barbering theory and how to apply it to male and female clients. Students begin the program by learning about skin, scalp and hair. From there, students focus on barber law, chemistry and shaving. By the end of the program, students will have experience in cutting, treating and coloring men and women's hair. The program includes many labs so that students can practice their hair styling skills.

Ohio State School of Cosmetology and Experts Barber School

Located in Canal Winchester, this school prepares students for the licensure process to become a barber in Ohio. Students learn basic hair cutting, hair styling, hair coloring and hair treatment. There's also an emphasis on facials and hairpieces. The program includes lessons on business management.

Raphael's Barber Academy

This Niles barber school provides students with 1,800 hours of training as part of the state licensure requirements to become a barber.
