U.S. News & World Report ranks colleges and universities by several undergraduate majors. Below are the top three schools in three popular subjects as ranked by the publication in recent years. These schools are notable for a variety of reasons, such as the number of concentrations available in a given field to the availability of customized degree plans.
Best Undergraduate Business Colleges
1. University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia
U.S. News & World Report ranked this school #1 for undergraduate business programs in 2013; the finance, marketing, international business and real estate programs are also highly ranked. The University of Pennsylvania offers concentrations in more than 20 areas, such as actuarial science and retailing, through its Wharton School of Business. This Ivy League college's business school also was ranked among the nation's top five MBA programs in 2010.
2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA
MIT earned the rank of #2 for undergraduate business programs in 2013 according to U.S. News & World Report. The undergraduate major in management science is one of MIT's most popular majors. The curriculum combines quantitative methods in management with psychology, communication and organizational behavior.
3. University of California - Berkeley
UC Berkeley tied MIT for #2 on U.S. News & World Report's list of best undergraduate business programs in 2013. The Haas School of Business at UC - Berkeley integrates a liberal arts education with a business curriculum. Core undergraduate courses in accounting, marketing, organizational behavior and business communication are augmented with electives in areas such as leadership and corporate finance.

1. Williams College in Williamstown, MA
In 2014, U.S. News & World Report ranked Williams College as #1 on its list of best national liberal arts colleges. Williams College is a small, private, liberal arts school, serving just over 2,000 students. The college's three academic divisions of humanities, sciences and social sciences comprise 33 diverse majors, including psychology, music, anthropology, theater and Chinese.
2. Amherst College in Amherst, MA
Amherst College ranked #2 on U.S. News & World Report's list of top national liberal arts colleges in 2014. Located in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, the town of Amherst is within proximity of three other liberal arts colleges and one university. Amherst College is one of the smallest in the group, with a student population under 2,000. Students may choose from 34 majors leading to a Bachelor of Arts, including American studies, economics, religion and neuroscience. They also are encouraged to take classes at the other nearby schools.
3. Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA
Among national liberal arts colleges, Swarthmore was ranked #3 by U.S. News & World Report in 2014. Swarthmore College, located outside Philadelphia, offers small seminars and a low student-faculty ratio for its student body of just under 1,500. Majors range from comparative literature and computer science to gender and sexuality studies, Islamic studies and biology.

Best Undergraduate Engineering Schools
1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA
This school was ranked #1 among schools offering undergraduate engineering programs where the highest attainable degree was a doctoral degree; U.S. News & World Report announced this list in 2013. MIT engineering majors may choose from eight specialties, including civil and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering and biological engineering. They also can work with a faculty adviser to create a personalized degree program, combining multiple engineering disciplines, if desired.
2. Stanford University in Stanford, CA
U.S. News & World Report ranked Stanford #2 on that same 2013 list of schools with the best undergraduate engineering programs. Students entering Stanford University are encouraged to complete the first two years of their undergraduate study in departments other than engineering. Undergraduate students can work on research projects with faculty and may also apply through a student grant program to fund research for their honors theses.
3. University of California - Berkeley
UC Berkeley ranked #3 on U.S. News & World Report's same list of best undergrad engineering schools in 2013. The College of Engineering at UC - Berkeley is comprised of seven departments and an undergraduate interdisciplinary major in engineering science; there is also a department of chemical engineering in the College of Chemistry. The College of Engineering's high ranking attracts students and educators from around the world to work on projects ranging from breast cancer research to creation of green office products.
