Monterey Peninsula College

Based in the city of Monterey, this college serves as the headquarters for the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center. The college offers a certificate and an associate's degree program in marine science and technology that can prepare students for employment involving boat maintenance and repair. Students complete training in areas such as basic marine vessel electrical and electronics operations, marine equipment operations and safety, and marine vessel engine repair. The program also includes a basic and advanced scuba diving certification course.

Saddleback College

Located in the suburban town of Mission Viejo, this college has the number one student transfer rate in Orange County to 4-year university's such as San Diego State University, the University of California-Berkeley and the University of Southern California. Students at this school can learn about boat maintenance and repair by completing a marine science technician certificate program. The program is aimed at equipping students with skills in marine equipment and systems maintenance, seasmanship navigation and vessel operations. Students complete hands-on training aboard marine research vessels that include both sail and power boats.
