EMT Training Course at Massachusetts Bay Community College
To participate in this program, students must pass criminal and sexual offender background checks. Students will also need to be at least 18 years old at the time of the certification exam.
Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
Students can earn this certificate by achieving at least a C+ grade in 1 class. The course prepares students to take the Massachusetts EMT-Basic exam through the Office of Emergency Medical Services. Students are taught human anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, CPR, airway management, stabilization and transportation of emergency patients. The course also covers treatment techniques for pre-hospital patients of all ages, from childbirth through geriatrics.
EMT Training Course at Northern Essex Community College
Before signing up for this class, prospective students will need to meet the school's reading and writing standards. Students are also required to pass criminal background and sexual offender checks.
The course is offered in daytime and alternative schedules. Students learn about airway management and oxygen therapy, cardiac arrest management and defibrillator use, techniques for extracting patients from vehicles, childbirth and other related skills. Successful completion of this course qualifies students to take the Massachusetts Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) Certification exam.

Emergency Medical Technician Basic Course
In this course, students learn through a combination of classroom studies, lab practice and field experience. The class is designed to prepare students to take the Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services EMT-Basic exam. Students are required to pass criminal and sexual offender background checks. They also need to have current CPR certification and meet health standards.
Emergency Medical Services Certificate: EMT-Intermediate
To enroll in this course, students must meet the same health and safety criteria established for the basic class. Students must also have their EMT-Basic certification and a letter from an employer demonstrating at least 1 year of satisfactory field experience. The class provides 6 modules of instruction through clinical work in hospitals and related facilities, lab training and field experience.
