Building Maintenance Schools and Colleges with Program Summaries
Building maintenance refers to a number of trade careers associated with construction and contacting jobs. Many schools in the United States offer 2-year accredited building maintenance programs.
How to Select a Building Maintenance School
A building maintenance school program should cover study in several industry-wide maintenance competencies. These fields may include heating and air conditioning, electrician work, construction and plumbing. Coursework might involve maintenance plumbing, job safety, welding, brazing, wiring and communication.
School websites often highlight jobs that are obtainable upon graduation, and students can look to see if they meet their career objectives. Trade and industry supervisors and facility maintenance foremen are some of the possible positions. Graduates of these programs can also work in property management, although this career often requires work experience.
Building Maintenance Program Summaries
Building maintenance technology programs are most commonly offered as associate's degrees and certificate programs. A certificate program covers basic aspects of the industry, such as blueprint reading, carpentry, masonry, framing, measuring, and troubleshooting. The chance to learn other trades, including basic air conditioning, electricity and plumbing, is available to students.
An associate's degree program combines the features of a certificate program along with general education requirements. Students learn about reinforcing building codes and scheduling and planning projects. An associate's degree may also involve more real-world experience, such as a co-op or internship program with a local business or contractor.
