University of California - San Diego Extension's CAD Design Program

The University of California extension in San Diego strives to serve the area with adult education programs. The school aims to stimulate development in the community and the city by offering professional education courses, include those in CAD design.

AutoCAD Certificate

This three-course program in AutoCAD proficiency guides student through sequential courses in beginning and advanced CAD design. Introductory courses focus primarily on learning the tools of popular CAD software, particularly as they apply to two-dimensional drawings. Students may then choose between two courses based on their personal and career interest. One course further studies traditional CAD design through a simulated real-world construction project. The other course explores the 3D modeling technology found in newer versions of AutoCAD software.

Cuyamaca College's CAD Design Programs

Located approximately 15 miles east of San Diego in El Cajon, California, Cuyamaca College is a 2-year institution serving over 7,700 students. The school offers several programs in CAD design, known in the school as computer-aided drafting and design (CADD).

Building Design Industry CADD Certificate

The building design certificate program begins with two core introductory classes in CAD design. Later study focuses on the use of CAD in surveying and architectural design. Students learn to create, light and texture 3D models in AutoCAD.

Manufacturing Industry CADD Certificate

Similar to the other certificate program, the manufacturing industry program features CAD core instruction followed by training specific to the manufacturing industry. This includes introductory lessons in engineering graphics and CAD programs, solid modeling, electronic drafting and dimensioning. Students will learn to adhere to industrial standards while learning to use CAD for problem solving in simulated industrial environments.

Associate of Applied Science in CADD Technology

Students seeking an associate's degree choose an emphasis in either building design or manufacturing and complete the courses of their respective certificate programs. In addition to this CAD design training, students must also take an additional 48 general education credits to earn the Associate of Applied Science in CADD Technology. The general education credits are designed to give students a rounded educational experience and cover communication, humanities, scientific inquiry, social sciences and self-development.
