Certified Compensation Professional Education Requirements

A Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) is an individual with training and knowledge in matters relating to employee compensation and associated human resource issues. The CCP designation is administered by the WorldatWork Society of Certified Professionals, a professional organization for human resource employees. Education Requirements for Certified Compensation Professionals

Those who wish to enroll in the CCP training program offered by the WorldatWork Society of Certified Professionals don't have to meet any formal education requirements; however, candidates must pass nine exams that cover areas such as total rewards management, accounting, job analysis and compensation program regulations (www.worldatworksociety.org). The WorldatWork Society considers a passing score to be a grade of 75% or higher, and candidates must pass all exams within eight years to obtain certification. To prepare for the exams, candidates may consider taking courses offered by the certifying organization to hone their skills in areas like compensation, performance-based pay, market pricing, variable pay and employee analysis.

Recertification

In order to maintain their credentials, CCPs must earn 12 credits of continuing education every 36 months. Individuals may earn these credits by maintaining a membership with the WorldatWork Society and other professional organizations, attending conferences, completing educational courses and teaching classes.

CCP Career Information

Certified Compensation Professionals may be employed as human resource managers, payroll directors and compensation consultants. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), overall employment for human resources specialists was predicted to increase by 21% from 2010-2020 (www.bls.gov).

Additionally, the BLS notes that job opportunities should be best for those who have earned at least bachelor's degrees and work experience. As such, candidates may consider earning 4-year degrees in business administration, organizational development or human resources. As of May 2012, the BLS determined the median annual wage for compensation and benefits managers was $95,250, with most earning between $54,060 and $172,450.
