Christian school administrators manage the affairs of a Christian school in such roles as principal, vice principal or academic dean. Normally, employers require Christian school administrators to have at least a bachelor's degree, but there are no specific legal requirements in this area for private educators.

Christian School Administrator Career Information

A Christian school administrator oversees the daily activities of a Christian school, as well as hiring staff, implementing educational programs and making sure the school meets state requirements and regulations. Even though many of the job duties are comparable to a public school administrator, there are a few differences in responsibilities. Because Christian schools are private, religious schools, a Christian school administrator is responsible for making sure the school operates under the religious principles prescribed by whatever organization owns the school.

In addition, Christian schools are usually smaller and only operate one campus versus an entire school district. Christian school administrators can find employment opportunities at elementary and secondary schools and sometimes opportunities are available at the college-level. Job titles may include assistant principle, principle or academic dean.

Education Requirements

Even though Christian school administrators are not held to the same requirements as public school administrators, who are usually required to have a master's degree or doctorate in education, it is still recommended that they hold at least a bachelor's degree, preferably in Christian education. Those who want to work at the college-level should also consider earning a master's or doctorate degree, such as the Master of Science (M.S.) in Christian School Education or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Studies with a concentration in educational ministry. Although there are several Christian colleges that offer degree programs, individuals are not limited to a religious or private school for education.

Other requirements, such as certification and licensure, vary depending on which state the Christian school is in. State regulations may specify that a certain amount of education or a license is required, or not, depending on the state. In addition to scholarly credentials, some employers require prospective administrators to illustrate Christian values and strong beliefs of the school's mission.
