CNA Training Schools in Massachusetts

Massachusetts requires that nurse aides complete a training program and pass exams. Upon passage of the certification exams, nurse aides in the state are placed on a registry.

There are a total of eight schools in the state that offer CNA training programs. Of these eight, four are offered by non-profit institutions. Each of the programs offered by these four schools prepares graduates to take the state's certification exams.

Bunker Hill Community College

Located in Boston, Bunker Hill Community College offers a nurse aide/home health aide training program approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Nurse Aide Registry. This program requires completion of 7-course-credit hours, which takes one semester of study. Its curriculum includes a practicum. Graduates can work in long-term care facilities or private homes.

Greater Lowell Technical School

This school, which is located in Tyngsboro, offers a Nurse Aide Training Program as part of its adult post-secondary career and technical programs. The training program includes both classroom instruction and a practicum. The practicum occurs at a local long-term care facility.

Middlesex Community College

Middlesex Community College, which is located in Bedford, enrolls about 10,000 students. The college offers a nurse assistant training program that includes 100 hours of study, including 23 hours of hands-on experience. Topics covered in the program include lifting and turning patients, patient rights, taking vital signs, safety and infection control.

North Shore Community College

Situated in Danvers, this college offers a nurse assistant training program that prepares graduates for certification as both a nurse aide and home health aide. Students in the program learn how to about taking vital signs, keeping medical records and basic personal care. The program's curriculum includes a practicum at a local nursing home.
