CNA Classes in Virginia with School Information and Options
Students in Virginia looking to pursue a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certificate have various options for classes and programs. Lord Fairfax Community College and Germanna Community College both offer students a CNA certificate program.
Lord Fairfax Community College's CNA Program
Lord Fairfax Community College has three locations, including the Fauquier campus, the Middletown campus and the Luray-Page County Center. The college was established in 1970 and offers several career studies programs, including the nursing assistant program.
Nursing Assistant Certificate
The nursing assistant certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients and become a vital part of a healthcare team. The program is composed of a 1-semester lecture and a lab, totaling four credits. After completing the lecture and lab portion, students go on to participate in a clinical experience at a local nursing home, which is required by the Virginia Board of Nursing. A certified nurse assistant can find employment in various healthcare settings, including nursing homes, clinics, daycare centers, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, physicians' offices and private homes. Graduates can take the National Nurse Aid Assessment Program (NNAAP).
Germanna Community College's CNA Program
Founded in 1970, Germanna Community College is a 2-year public community college and is part of the Virginia Community College System. The college has campuses in Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Locust Grove and Stafford. In the Fall 2010 semester, more than 7,500 students were enrolled. Germanna Community College offers associate's degree and certificates, including a certificate for nurse aides. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and its nurse aide program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
Nurse Aide Certificate
This certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become CNAs. Additionally, the program prepares students to take the certification examination offered by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Students complete 18 credits. Course topics include communication in a health care setting and computer concepts and applications. Applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED and a score of 81 or higher on college placement exams.
