CNA Training in Utah with Program Overviews
Utah students seeking a career as a CNA, also known as a certified nursing assistant, can enroll in CNA training at Davis Applied Technology College or Salt Lake Community College. These 2-year public schools offer a combination of classroom and clinical training that prepares students for state examinations and employment.
Davis Applied Technology College's CNA Training Program
Davis Applied Technology College is located in Kaysville and was founded in 1978. This is one of eight applied technology college campuses that make up the Utah College of Applied Technology. The college offers students a CNA certificate program.
CNA Certificate of Program Completion
CNAs are directly involved in the hands-on care of patients. Students in this program learn basic nursing skills, including restorative services, personal care, taking and recording vital signs and measuring weight and height. Students can expect to spend 99 hours in this program, including 70 hours of classroom instruction and training, 25 hours of clinical education at a local healthcare institution and four hours of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. Upon certification, graduates can find entry-level employment in various healthcare settings, including hospice facilities, physicians' offices, physical therapy centers, home healthcare agencies, hospitals and long-term care facilities.
Salt Lake Community College's CNA Program
Salt Lake Community College is located in Salt Lake City and was established in 1948. This is the largest institution of higher education in the state of Utah, as well as the college with the most diverse student body in the state. The college offers students a CNA program through its School of Applied Technology.
CNA Program
This 130-hour CNA program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to look after the psychological, physical and physiological needs of patients who are often classified as chronic, acute or long-term and reside at long-term care facilities or hospitals. The program's curriculum includes topics like body mechanics and kinesiology, human relations, bacteriology, physiology, anatomy, safety methods, therapeutic procedures and disease processes. The program is delivered through classroom training and hands-on clinical practice using multimedia and individualized instruction. There are two certification tests in the state of Utah, and both must be passed before becoming licensed and certified.
