The 15 states along the East Coast of the United States host a wide selection of major colleges and universities; however, they are not evenly distributed. The three largest schools, Miami Dade College, the University of Florida and the University of Central Florida, are all in Florida.

Miami Dade College
The main campus of Miami Dade College (MDC) is located on the Atlantic coast at the north end of Biscayne Bay. It offers 117 certificate, 188 associate's degree and five bachelor's degree programs. Bachelor's degrees include exceptional student education, secondary mathematics education, secondary science education, public safety management and nursing. MDC awards the most associate's degrees of any college in the U.S.

University of Florida
The University of Florida (UF), located at the southwestern end of Gainesville, is one of three institutions the Florida legislature has designated as a research flagship university. It's organized into 16 colleges which offer 118 bachelor's degree, 123 master's degree and 76 doctoral degree programs. UF's biotechnology research programs have had a particularly strong impact, spawning some 50 biotech companies. In 2009, U.S. News and World Report ranked UF 15th in its 'Top Public Universities' guide. In 2008, Kiplinger's magazine ranked UF second in among best value public colleges.

University of Central Florida
University of Central Florida (UCF) is located at the eastern edge of Orlando. It's composed of 12 colleges, in areas such as arts and humanities, business administration, education, engineering and computer science, hospitality management and medicine. In total they offer 90 bachelor's, 91 master's and 29 doctoral degree programs, as well as three specialist programs and one professional program in medicine. UCF has made notable research contributions in business administration, computer science, digital media, education, engineering, hospitality management and optics. In 2009 the Princeton Review assessed UCF as a 'Best Value Public College.'
