IV Certification Programs in Colorado
IV certificates arm students with essential skills for administering intravenous dosages. Certificate programs for IV administration are offered at two-year colleges and four-year universities in the state of Colorado. IV programs generally consist of lectures and demonstrations before concluding with real-life administrations by students themselves. Below is a rundown on two prominent IV certification programs in Colorado.
Red Rocks Community College
Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, Colo., offers an IV certification program for emergency medical technician (EMT) students. The 20-hour program consists of lectures and hands-on demonstrations where students learn the essential skills of intravenous administration. The program culminates with in-field practice, where each student must administer 10 IVs to receive the certificate. In order to enroll, students must hold current EMT-Basic certificates for the state of Colorado.
Colorado Mesa University
Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo., has an IV certification program for licensed practical nurses (LPNs). The program guides LPNs through the process of administering IV fluids with precise measurements of dosages. The IV certificate is one of two prerequisites - along with the LPN license - for registered-nurse (RN) licensure in Colorado. Licenses are earned through examinations with the State Board, for which the annual application cut-off date is October 1.
