Commercial Art
What is Commercial Art?
Commercial Art is art that is created solely for the purposes of selling goods and services. It is most often applied to the fields of advertising and marketing, and can be used to sell a variety of products, from tennis shoes to vacation destinations. Companies commission Commercial Art for print and television ads, catalogues, billboards, store displays, web sites and more. Commercial Art involves a variety of creative processes, the most popular of which is color photography, followed by illustration, animation, graphic design, painting, drawing and modern art. A commercial artist is typically trained in the fine arts, and sometimes also takes additional courses in marketing, business or commercial design. Those involved in the creation of Commercial Art must also be able to take information and requests from companies and turn it into acceptable artwork that will draw the attention of a specific demographic. Many commercial artists work within small design firms with art directors, production workers and other staff members who assist in the creation of artistic pieces.
