The University of Texas at Brownsville
Located in Brownsville, The University of Texas at Brownsville was founded in 1991. The student population at the college in 2011-2012 was 14,918 (13,878 undergraduate) while the student-faculty ratio was 20:1. The College of Science, Mathematics, and Technology has certificate program for Construction Technology- Green Building. The curriculum is 36 hours and includes courses such as introduction to construction industry, construction estimating, forms and foundations, and energy efficient building design.
The University of Texas at El Paso
El Paso is home to The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). During the 2011-2012 school year, the student-faculty ratio at UTEP was 21:1 and the student population was 22,640 (18,975 undergraduate). Students who want to participate in The Master of Science in Construction Management program must have a bachelor or master degree in engineering or architecture. The program is 30 hours long and construction management, construction law and ethics, construction safety, construction methods, and construction internship are some of the courses in the curriculum. UTEP's College of Engineering also offers a Graduate Certificate in Construction Management. University of Texas at San Antonio
The University of Texas at San Antonio, located in San Antonio, is the one of the largest branches of the University of Texas (UT) university system. It provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs to nearly 29,000 students each year. The Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and Management program provides students with an education in basic business and management principles strategies, while teaching them how to apply those principles to the construction industry. Students enrolled in the construction management program are required to complete at least 123 credit hours in courses such as building technology, architecture history, construction estimating, construction safety, construction documents, construction management, accounting and business law. The Master of Science in Construction Science and Management program, offered through the College of Business, includes courses related to the finance, business and managerial duties of a construction manager. The degree program requires 33 credit hours and students must pass a final exam. Course topics include decision making, construction management, construction finance, real estate investments and organizational management.
The University of Texas at Tyler
Tyler is the location of The University of Texas at Tyler. It is another branch of the UT educational system, although it is considerably smaller than the San Antonio branch with a student population of only about 6,200 students. It offers 90 undergraduate and graduate degree programs within four professional colleges and one college of arts and sciences. The College of Engineering and Computer Science offers a bachelor's degree program in construction management. The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management Degree is offered through the Department of Civil Engineering and prepares students to oversee the construction of commercial and residential facilities. Students enrolled in the bachelor's degree program are first required to complete general education and entry-level courses in economics, Texas politics, speech communication and business mathematics. Once general education courses are completed, construction management majors can complete upper-level courses in topics like construction materials and methods, structural systems and technology, construction law and ethics, construction estimating and construction design theory.
