Erwin Technical Center

The Erwin Technical Center is part of Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa, FL, which sponsors a 5-campus network of high-tech training centers. The school has career training programs in business, industry, design and medicine, and students have the opportunity to enroll on a full-time or part-time basis.

Dental Assisting Diploma

The 12-month dental assisting diploma program involves 1,230 hours of classroom and clinical work. Students gain practical, on-the-job experience by working for 360 hours at Erwin's on-site Hillsborough County Dental Research Clinic. Courses include dental terminology, dental anatomy, dental lab equipment and dental radiography. Students also learn about dental chair side assisting and office management. The program is accredited by the American Dental Association and certified by the Council of Dental Education. Graduates receive a diploma in dental assisting, an Expanded Functions Certificate for Dental Assistants and a Dental Radiographer Certificate. Upon passing the Dental Assisting National Board exam, graduates become Certified Dental Assistants.

Remington College - Tampa Campus

Remington College - Tampa Campus is a technical school that provides students with career training opportunities. Programs are available at the diploma, associate's degree and bachelor's degree level. Students can pursue vocational programs in medical assisting, dental assisting, dental hygiene and massage therapy.

Dental Assistant Diploma

The dental assistant diploma at Remington College - Tampa Campus features eight modules and combines academic coursework with an externship. Courses in the program include oral anatomy, dental science, dental materials, dental office emergencies, chair side assisting and clinical oral radiology. After completing the first seven modules, students will participate in the externship, which is the eighth module. Students in the program will have an opportunity to earn the Registered Dental Assistant and Certified Dental Assistant credentials.

Hillsborough Community College

With multiple locations throughout the Tampa, FL, area, Hillsborough Community College offers educational and career training programs. In addition to associate's degrees, students can enroll in technical programs, health science programs, college credit certificates and postsecondary adult vocational programs. Academic opportunities are available in business, education, health sciences, media arts technology, information technology and public service.

Dental Assisting Certificate

This 12-month dental assisting program prepares students to help dentists accomplish a variety of procedures. Students learn procedures for x-ray processing, fabricating temporary crowns, taking impressions, polishing teeth and performing fluoride treatments. After completing the program, graduates can take the Dental Assisting National Board exam. Upon passing, they become Certified Dental Assistants. Graduates of the dental assisting program can work in general dentistry, orthodontic, periodontic or pediatric offices.
