Business Teacher Education

Business education teachers cover topics such as business communications, computer literacy, marketing and basic accounting. Positions are available in K-12 schools, vocational schools and universities. Read on to find out about academic and career options in business teacher education.

Inside Business Teacher Education

Aspiring teachers must obtain at least a bachelor's degree to teach kindergarten through the 12th grade (K-12). Business teachers at that level may more commonly be found at the middle or high school levels. Individuals who want to teach at the postsecondary level typically have to earn either a master's or doctoral degree.

Typical coursework for undergraduate business students can include finance, accounting, marketing management, information systems, issues in secondary education and foundations of business education. A graduate student may choose a specific concentration or can complete a general program. Some teachers at the secondary school level choose to obtain master's degrees to advance financially or to receive promotions.

Teaching is a career that requires tact, a diplomatic nature and a willingness to discipline when needed. Aspiring teachers should enjoy learning and be passionate about their chosen subject matter. An authoritative personality might serve as an advantage; however, the desire to make a visible difference and influence others should be at the forefront. Some degree of creativity may be useful, because teachers must often help design curriculum.
