Industrial Production: Industrial Production managers
Students with a degree in industrial engineering, management, or business administration might want to look into industrial production as a manager. Industrial production managers are responsible for making sure that products leave the manufacturing floor in perfect condition while creating schedules for employees and products. Industrial production managers stay current with technological innovations and create the best possible atmosphere and environment for the employees under them. As higher level employees and supervisors, industrial production managers need to communicate with staff in order to maintain the necessary high levels of efficiency and safety. All industrial production managers must have a degree from a college or institution and are highly compensated for their work. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, reports that median annual earnings of industrial production managers in 2002 were $67,32.
There is no standard course of preparation for this occupation. As stated previously, a college degree is required, even for employees who have worked their way up through the ranks. Typical professionals in the industrial production field hold college degrees in management, business administration, industrial technology, or industrial engineering. Those with more advanced positions often have a master's degree in industrial management or an MBA. Employers generally prefer employees with a business or engineering background. For more details on a career or education in industrial production, visit www.bls.gov.
