EMT Ambulance Certification Programs

All states require EMTs to be certified. They are certified by the State where they are employed and requirements for certification are different for each state, so check. Many states also stipulate that EMTs register with NREMT - National Registry of EMT by taking their exams testing practical skills and knowledge. NREMT does not certify EMTs, but some states use the exams as a testing standard. In order to remain certified, EMTs have to reregister approximately every 2 years (conditions include presently working as an EMT and completion of an education requirement). EMTs can work for ambulance services, fire and rescue services, hospitals, government agencies or humanitarian relief organizations.
