About Vatterott College
Vatterott College was founded in 1969 as Urban Technical Centers, Inc., in downtown St. Louis to provide specific career training. Although the flagship campus closed in 1999, this college continues to prepare students for employment in trade occupations. In 2003, Vatterott Educational Centers, Inc., was established to oversee the 17 locations in eight different states that Vatterott now covers. This article will focus on the Northpark campus in Berkeley, Missouri, the main campus of Vatterott since 2007.
Vatterott offers certificate programs, associate degrees and bachelor's degrees in on-campus and online formats. The on-campus classes are offered Monday through Thursday in day, afternoon or evening options.
Vatterott's Berkeley campus offers a Bachelor of Science program in computer engineering and network technology, the school's only bachelor's program. Students in this program learn DOS computing, Linux, motherboard architecture, router configurations, TCP/IP protocol and network security fundamentals. This degree prepares students for certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate or a CompTIA Security+ or Security Certified Network Professional, as well as a CompTIA Linux+ or Linux Professional Institute Level 1 technician. It also serves as preparation for the Microsoft Certified Professional Exam. This program takes 170 weeks to complete.
There are ten available Associate of Occupational Studies programs at Vatterott's Berkeley campus. These programs are available in medical and health services, business, computer equipment and technology. Some of the options include pharmacy technician, business management and electrical mechanics technology. Each program combines hands-on training with the fundamental principles for that field of study.
Diploma programs are available in the following areas: combination welding, computer technology, cosmetology, electrical mechanic, information systems security, medical assistant occupational specialist, plumbing and heating, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic. Cosmetology students may take advantage of Vatterott's student-staffed salon, Salon Cosmetique, which allows for actual salon training with the public. Non-degree seeking students have several programs to choose from, including forklift operation and basic fire alarm installation.
Vatterott has an open admissions policy on a rolling application base, although classes are designed for entry every 10 weeks. Each applicant must schedule a personal interview with the admissions office, either in person or by phone. Students need the application itself, a high school transcript or GED certificate, a signed enrollment agreement, a reference sheet and the application fee.
Tuition & Financial Aid
As a private school, Vatterott doesn't have any difference in tuition for resident and non-resident students. The college strongly suggests that interested students complete the FAFSA and connect with the Office of Financial Aid for an overview of available loans, grants and payment plans. Vatterott also offers some institutional scholarships based on high school grades, military service and enrollment in the cosmetology program.
