Anne Arundel Community College
This school presents a tiered format for EMT training. Students can begin by preparing for the basic level and progress to paramedic.
Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Course
This class requires students to submit a health examination record and pass a criminal background check before the course begins. State and national exams require separate fees. The course lasts 19 weeks, and a 100% attendance rate is required to pass. The curriculum focuses on patient assessment and management, emergency scene control and care of pre-hospital patients with medical emergencies and injuries. Successfully completing the course qualifies students to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Basic exam and state certification exam for licensing.
EMT Intermediate Certificate (EMT-I)
Before enrolling in this class, students must complete the EMT-Basic course. This program is presented through evening classes and occasional daytime clinical sessions. Maryland students living outside the county might qualify for in-district rates for this healthcare manpower-shortage training program.
The program consists of 8 classes that spread out over 3 terms. Along with classroom and lab instruction, students participate in a field internship. Successful completion qualifies students to take the state and NREMT Intermediate exams. Students can use this program to bridge into a paramedic program.
EMT Training at Prince George's Community College
To enroll in this program, students must have 1 year of experience as an EMT-Basic or other acceptable experience and meet the school's math and English standards.
Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate Certificate
This is a 30-credit program that covers advanced studies in shock and trauma, medical emergencies, airway management, pharmacology and EKG interpretation. The curriculum is presented through classroom studies, lab practice and field experiences that are coordinated through local fire departments and hospital emergency facilities. Successful completion qualifies students to take the NREMT Intermediate exam and progress into the paramedic program.
