Information about Engineering

Pursuing an education in engineering can provide challenging and interesting work. Engineers apply the principles of mathematics and science towards solving technical problems and have a variety of engineering fields to choose from. Some of these engineering fields include civil, computer, environmental, or systems engineering. Engineers are involved in many aspects of creating, developing, and manufacturing a product or structure. For example, many choose to work in design, production, or maintenance. Engineering knowledge is applied to solving problems in areas such as healthcare, food production, operational systems, and many more.

A bachelor's degree is required for most of the entry-level jobs, and because many engineers work in high-technology areas, the salaries tend to be higher than those of other graduates. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, for the 2002-2012 period, overall job opportunities in engineering should be good as the number of engineering graduates is expected to equal the number of job openings.

The Basics of Bachelor Degree Programs

Students can get a Bachelor degree in as little as four or five years. In exchange for those years spent being educated and trained, an individual can become employed as a high-tech professional earning thousands of dollars more than those with high school diplomas or associate's degrees. The average earnings of an individual who has completed a Bachelor's degree program was $52,200 a year in 2002 according to the American Council of Education. In comparison, high school graduates earned $30,400 and those with an Associate's degree earned $38,200. A Bachelor's degree earned by participating in an educational program like computer engineering, architecture, English or music can open the door to a myriad of opportunities.
