Event Planning Degrees in Tennessee

Tennessee has very few event planning degree options. The state contains two colleges that offer programs with meeting and event planning curricula. Belmont University provides both a certificate program and a bachelor's degree program in the field, while Middle Tennessee State University offers an organizational communications major that accommodates students interested in special events planning.

Belmont University

Located in Nashville, Belmont University offers students certificate and bachelor's degree programs related to event planning. Belmont's meeting and event planning certificate program requires 40 hours spread over five consecutive Fridays. Each week, students are exposed to a new aspect of event management. Topics include food and beverage planning, sites selection and event budgeting. Students are exposed to event planning lingo, legal management and the basics of event promotion. All certificate courses can be taken individually for students not interested in completing the entire 5-week program.

Belmont's bachelor's degree program in public relations management provides students with the opportunity to specialize in event planning. To accommodate working students, courses are available during both the day and evening hours. Students are required to complete 30 hours for the public relations management major but can then personalize their study through elective courses. Students seeking a specialization in event planning can learn to plan and complete events such as concerts and benefits through courses like event planning, media relations and fundraising. The program requires a minimum of 128 credit hours.

Middle Tennessee State University

Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro provides a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communication program with a specialization in special event planning. Students interested in planning events from meetings and conferences to weddings and ceremonies can benefit from this option. A sample course includes organizational communication, where the theories and techniques of communication are reviewed in relation to events like fundraising. A total of 120 credit hours is required for program completion.
