Florida Engineering Schools with Degree Program Information
Students aspiring to become engineers can start their training off right at several schools in the state of Florida. The University of Florida in Gainesville offers Bachelor of Science and graduate programs in engineering. Students can also attend the University of Central Florida in Orlando to earn their undergraduate, master's or Ph.D. in an engineering field.
University of Florida's Engineering Programs
The University of Florida offers engineering programs through its College of Engineering. As of 2010, 11 of these programs were recognized by the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology (ABET). The College of Engineering conducts research in thermal sciences, control systems, fluid dynamics and design.
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
Chemical engineering majors study calculus, physics, geometry and differential equations in this undergraduate program. Students also learn about thermodynamics, fluid operations, energy transfer and the structure of matter. This knowledge of science and math is incorporated into engineering practice, which is used to analyze and design new chemical processes or products.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
This program introduces students to electrical theory, electronic components and solid state circuitry. After they acquire the calculus, geometry and math fundamentals required for engineering, students learn about microprocessors, linear controls, digital circuits, communications and other electronic applications.
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering
This program prepares students for careers in the design, manufacturing or operation of aircraft and spacecraft. The curriculum draws heavily on mechanical engineering, and students pursuing this degree complete many of the same requirements as the mechanical engineering students.
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
This dual degree program requires nine credit-hours beyond Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering requirements. Graduates also earn their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in Computer Engineering
Only computer engineering majors enrolled at the University of Florida qualify for this accelerated program. Students in the program can earn their graduate degree within three semesters after earning their Bachelor of Science, and the program allows students to participate in teaching or research.

University of Central Florida
The University of Central Florida's College of Engineering and Computer Science offers engineering programs. The college is home to the Florida Power Electronics Center, which researches cost effective ways to generate and store electricity. The college also offers refresher courses for working engineers and other professionals, but these courses don't count for college credit.
Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
This program is accredited by the ABET and includes courses in digital circuits, programming, electronics, calculus and engineering statistics. Students also learn about engineering analysis.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Students earn their Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering to address structural and transportation issues. The curriculum covers the nature of structures, water resources and transportation. The behavior of steel, soil dynamics, ground water and mass transit are also taught.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology - Space Systems Technology
This program is for students looking to enter manufacturing or technical careers in the space industry. Students learn about astronomy, flight systems, rocket propulsion and electronics. The program also covers quality control, design and engineering principles.
Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering
The Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering curriculum is for students seeking research or teaching careers. Students can specialize their study in signal processing, communications, robotics and other areas. They must complete a dissertation and independent study in their area of interest.
Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering
Students enter this program to conduct research in mechanical systems, aerospace technology or thermofluids. Students must complete at least 27 hours of coursework; the remainder of the program is focused on research.
