College of Lake County
College of Lake County (CLC) of suburban Grayslake, located far north of Chicago, has programs in hospitality and culinary management. The school has a 9,000-square foot kitchen and cooking facility with a dining area. The 35-37-credit hospitality manager certificate program prepares students for careers in advanced management for restaurants, bakeries, catering services and institutional food service. Some of the required courses include menu planning, food service sanitation, culinary arts, purchasing and hospitality leadership. Program participants may opt to complete an internship. CLC also offers an associate's degree program in hospitality and culinary management, which trains graduates for management careers in hospitality, as well as for roles as bakers, chefs and pastry chefs.
DePaul University is a 4-year institution near downtown Chicago that offers a Bachelor of Science in Business in Hospitality Leadership through its Driehaus College of Business. This program includes a concentration in food and beverage management. This 192-credit bachelor's degree program trains students for food and beverage management careers with a focus on leadership skills. While an internship isn't required, students are encouraged to complete a kitchen skills internship during the program. A course in food service management is required, but students can choose from electives such as wine education and management, beverage management and contract food service management.
Elgin Community College
Elgin Community College is located in Elgin, a suburb northwest in Chicago, and offers a restaurant operations certificate program. Designed for those interested in food and beverage management, the program teaches participants about advertising, promotion, customer service and cost management. Some of the courses include culinary arts, food service sanitation, beverage management and dining room operations.
Harper College is a community college in northwest suburban Palatine. The college offers a certificate program in food service management that prepares those already employed in the industry for advanced positions. Graduates of the program may be awarded a ManageFirst certificate by the National Restaurant Association's Educational Foundation. Moraine Valley Community College

Richland Community College
Situated in central Illinois' Decatur is Richland Community College. Richland has a 22-credit certificate program in food service management with classes in bar and beverage management, food service presentation, catering management and customer service. Students must also complete a practicum experience in hospitality. The college's associate's degree program in hospitality management involves many of the same classes as the certificate program.
Southwestern Illinois College
Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) is located in Belleville, and students preparing for employment in food service might be interested in several programs offered at the school. The food service certificate program focuses on general food service, while the food service and management certificate program combines food preparation and managerial skills, and involves a required internship.
