University of Kansas in Lawrence
Located just under 40 miles from Kansas City, the University of Kansas (KU) in Lawrence has more than 40 graduate programs that have been highly ranked by U.S. News & World Report. KU's urban policy, city management and special education programs are consistently ranked #1 among public institutions and the entire School of Education was ranked among the top ten public universities in the nation in 2010. College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the largest college at KU. It offers a broad range of graduate programs in the humanities, social sciences, math and natural sciences. A small sample of the departments that offer master's and doctoral degrees in this college includes psychology, English, physics, linguistics, mathematics and art.
School of the Arts
There are four departments in KU's School of the Arts. Three of these departments offer Master of Fine Art degrees, including film and media studies, theater and visual art.
School of Music
Master's and doctoral degrees are offered in a variety of performance and theoretical areas in the music school. Theoretical programs include music education, music therapy, musicology and music theory. Practical programs include music composition, conducting, accompanying and a variety of performance areas, such as jazz studies, piano and voice.
School of Architecture, Design and Planning
Graduate students in this school may earn master's and doctoral degrees in all the school's three main departments - architecture, urban planning and design. A graduate program in architectural engineering is also offered jointly with the School of Engineering.
William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications
Graduate students at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications may earn a Master of Science in Journalism. The program has three concentrations, including news and information, strategic communications and marketing communications.
School of Education

Graduate programs are available in area such as curriculum and instruction, educational administration, educational technology, counseling psychology, health and physical education, secondary teacher education and higher education administration.
School of Social Welfare
Students interested in social work can pursue graduate studies in KU's School of Social Welfare. The school confers a Master of Social Work, as well as a Ph.D. in Social Work.
School of Medicine
Aspiring physicians can earn their Doctor of Medicine degree at the School of Medicine. School of Allied Health
Students who are interested in the broader medical field can earn a master's or doctoral degree here. Departments that offer graduate studies include physical therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation science, therapeutic science, dietetics and nutrition, audiology and speech-language pathology.
School of Law
Law students at this graduate school can earn a Juris Doctor with an optional certificate in one of eight areas, including media law and policy, advocacy, elder law, business and commercial law, tax law and international trade. Joint degrees are also offered through several different KU schools, including business, economics and journalism.
School of Business
A variety of master's degrees are available through the School of Business, including the Master of Business Administration and Master of Accounting. This school also offers a Ph.D. program in which students can focus on one of eight areas of concentration, including finance, marketing, information systems, human resource management and organizational behavior.
