Programs at SUNY Downstate Medical Center
SUNY Downstate Medical Center features colleges and schools in medicine, nursing, health professions and public health. The School of Public Health offers a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Public health with concentrations in community health sciences, environmental and occupational health sciences and epidemiology.
Master of Public Health - Community Health Sciences
The community health sciences concentration is designed to train health practitioners in improving the health of communities all over the globe. Core requirements in the program include immigrant population health, urban health issues, gender and ethnicity in health and planning and evaluation. Electives offer students a chance to learn about community organization, HIV prevention, pediatric interventions, adolescent health and public health preparedness.
Master of Public Health - Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences
Students enrolled in the environmental and occupational health sciences concentration focus on the control of environmental and occupational work hazards and how they impact human health. The program requires that students complete core coursework in occupational health, health aspect of physical trauma and environment and public health. Opportunities are also available to take courses in risk assessment, occupational and environmental toxicology and environmental health case studies.
Doctor of Public Health - Community Health Sciences
Doctorate students work with faculty members and conduct research on the health goals of local and worldwide communities. Courses in the program include methods of community intervention, research methods of public health practice and program evaluation. Students are also required to participate in a health promotion seminar. The program offers electives in health communication, models of health behavior, community health case studies and ethnicity in health promotion.
Doctor of Public Health - Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences
The environmental and occupational health sciences concentration teaches students to assess environmental and occupational hazards using epidemiological methods. Students learn how to create programs to prevent injury in the work place. The program requires that students take courses in food supply safety, environmental health policy, risk management topics and occupational health topics. Students also must participate in a field experience.
Programs at Queensborough Community College
Students at Queensborough Community College can pursue certificate, Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science programs. These programs are designed for career preparation or transfer to a 4-year university. In addition to an Associate of Science in Health Science, students can also pursue programs in environmental health, engineering science, science for forensics, biotechnology and nursing.
Associate in Science in Health Science
The Associate in Science in Health Science is designed to provide students with the first two years of education and training before transferring to a 4-year university. Articulation agreements are available with 11 schools; these schools offer graduates a chance to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Science. The specific coursework is going to depend on where a student is intent on transferring; however, all students must complete 60 credits and courses in health care delivery and health of a nation.

Bachelor of Science in Health Science
