Although Florida does not require certification or licensing for home health aides, individuals who plan to become home health aides need to show proof of at least 40 hours of home health aide training to work for a licensed agency and at least 75 hours of training to work for a Medicare or Medicaid home health agency. Florida State College at Jacksonville

Situated in Jacksonville, this 4-year school, which has an enrollment of 30,000, offers home health aide training through its Florida Coast Career Tech division. Students explore basic health care concepts, like safety, nutrition, and the health care delivery system. In addition, the home health aide program focuses on the specific role of the home health aide as an assistant to a registered nurse. During the course of the program, students complete 40 hours of internships at nursing facilities and home health agencies to gain hands-on experience. This program requires 165 contact hours, and students earn 5.5 workforce credits.

George Stone Technical Center

Located in Pensacola, this school offers a variety of certificate programs. Students enrolled in the 215-hour home health aide program, which takes 9 weeks to complete, take courses in basic health care, nurse aide, and home health aide. In addition to paying tuition and fees, students must purchase uniforms and other supplies. Graduates of this program receive two completion of program certificates, and they're eligible to take the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam.

Immokalee Technical Center
