Dutchess Community College

Dutchess Community College, located just five miles from Hyde Park in the town of Poughkeepsie, is known for its low tuition and high graduation rate of transfer students. It is a magnet for recent high school graduates intending to move on to four-year colleges and universities in New York state or elsewhere. Nursing and education are two popular programs at DCC, and a high proportion of the region's nurses graduated from DCC's nursing program. The college offers a joint teacher education program with the State University of New York at New Paltz, a nearby four-year college. In addition to certificate and vocational training programs, DCC's 60 fields of academic study include art, architecture, business, computer informatics, fire science and liberal arts.

SUNY College at New Paltz

The State University of New York at New Palt is the 99th oldest college in the United States and located approximately 10 miles outside of Hyde Park between Albany and New York City. New Paltz is home to Huguenot Street, the oldest street in the country. The school offers degrees through six colleges and schools, including business, education, science and engineering and graduate studies. More than 100 undergraduate degree programs, 50 graduate programs and pre-doctoral certification in educational supervision and administration are available in an academically competitive environment.

Marist College

One of three colleges in the town of Poughkeepsie, Marist College is five miles from Hyde Park and situated along the east bank of the Hudson River. The school has received recognition from the Princeton Review as 'A Best 368 College' and is ranked 15th in the 2009 U.S. News and World Report's 'Universities - Master's (North)' category. A majority of students are traditional undergraduates who reside in campus housing, although graduate degrees and continuing education options are available. The school operates two unique, student-involved facilities. The Hudson River Valley Institute facilitates academic research and preservation projects in the Hudson River Valley, while the Marist Institute for Public Opinion is a respected polling institute that conducts survey research on a wide range of topics.
