What Online Criminology Programs Are Available at Indiana State University?
Indiana State University offers online Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts and Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Criminology certificate programs are also available in corrections, law enforcement, private security and loss prevention. Each of these programs is offered 100% online.
ISU's online criminology certificate programs comprise a 9-credit-hour basic certificate and an 18-credit-hour advanced certificate. Some general course topics in the corrections certificate program include basic corrections, records, reports and interviewing techniques. The advanced certificate program adds an online practicum with guest speakers to the basic coursework. General course topics in the law enforcement certificate program include basic law enforcement, prevention, investigation and police and community relations. Course topics in the private security and loss prevention certificate program include prevention, commercial security, reports, records and investigation.
Bachelor of Science
The Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice degree is a 62- to 70-semester-hour degree completion program that prepares students for law school or for careers in juvenile justice, corrections, private security and law enforcement. The degree completion program includes 39 credit hours in criminology or criminal justice, only 18 of which can be transferred in from another college. Some course topics include police and community relations, preventing crime, forensics, juvenile delinquency, victimology, investigation and retail, industrial and commercial security. Undergraduate seniors in good academic standing are able to enroll in graduate-level courses.
Indiana State University offers two 36-credit-hour master's degrees in criminology and criminal justice, covering topics including criminological theories, ethics, police practices, law administration, counseling and group therapy. The Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice is geared toward students bound for law school or careers in adult and juvenile parole, probation, corrections or crime prevention. The Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice is suited to students planning to continue on to doctoral programs or careers in research or academia. Because the master's programs are very popular, students may be put on a waiting list before being admitted.
