Information about Landscape Architecture
While you might picture architects slouching over drafting tables or building models day in and day out, those employed within one particular branch of the field actually get to break out of the office now and again. Landscape architecture, as the name suggests, is the architecture of landscape. What does that mean? Well, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, landscape architecture professionals design residential areas, public parks and playgrounds, college campuses, etc, so that they are functional, beautiful, and compatible with their environment. Landscape architects spend much of their time creating plans and designs, preparing models and cost estimates, and doing research, but spend the remainder of their time at the site observing construction. The BLS notes that a bachelor's or master's degree in landscape architecture is typically needed to enter the field. A bachelor's degree in the field takes 4 to 5 years to complete, while a master's degree requires 2 to 3 years more. While, all in all, learning the trade can take quite a bit of time, employment outlooks indicate it is money and effort well spent, as employment in the field is expected to increase faster than the national average of all jobs through the year 2014.
