Make-up Artist Courses in Georgia

While Georgia does not currently have any schools that offer programs specifically for make-up artists, the state does have has eight schools that offer training in make-up application within theatre, esthetician or cosmetology programs.

Aspiring make-up artists can choose to enroll in esthetician certificate programs. Besides learning about make-up application, these programs teach students about skin care and beautification techniques. Performing professional esthetician services at salons and other similar establishments legally requires state licensure through the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology. To obtain licensure, individuals need to complete a 9-month, 1,000-hour course at an approved school or complete 2,000 hours of apprenticeship training, pass a practical and written exam and be at least 17.

Some schools offer bachelor's degree programs in theatre that include courses in make-up applications. Though this is often just one or two classes within a larger degree program, students can learn application techniques that can help prepare them for a career as a make-up artist in the stage, media or performance arts fields.
