Make-Up Programs in Michigan
In Michigan, estheticians who work with aspects of skin care that include make-up application must be licensed through the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Applicants need to have a 9th grade education or the equivalent and be at least 17 years old. Individuals must complete a 400-hour course of study at a licensed school or serve a 6-month apprenticeship, and applicants must pass the state board exam. Aspiring make-up artists may also apply for their cosmetology license, which requires the completion of a 1,500-hour program or a 2-year apprenticeship that covers a more diverse range of beauty topics including hair care and manicuring.
For-profit esthetician programs with make-up courses are plentiful in Michigan. Students may also choose to pursue the longer cosmetology program at a public school. Below are the offerings at 10 of the largest licensed esthetician schools. All of the programs profiled can prepare students to earn their esthetician license in the state. The schools also provide a variety of other beauty programs in manicuring, cosmetology and instructor training.
