Massachusetts Home Health Aide Certificates with Course Info

Massachusetts Home Health Aide Certificate Programs
Only a small handful of Massachusetts schools offer home health aide certificate programs. In general, home health aides provide personal care services for the elderly, disabled children and disabled adults. These aides provide clients with medication reminders and help clients with simple tasks. Before working in Massachusetts, home health aides must go through 75 hours of initial training, which includes 16 hours of practicum training. These aides are subject to supervision and must pass examinations to work as home health aides. It's also common for aides to submit to background checks and screenings prior to employment.
Bristol Community College
Located in Fall River, this public college offers a Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide Training program for students who are looking for employment in nursing homes and hospitals. Students go through 121 hours of supervised training as part of this state-approved program. As part of the training, students take part in classroom lectures and practicums. Another piece of the program involves 18 hours of home health aide training in addition to other forms of specialized training.
Cape Cod Community College
Students who enroll at this West Barnstable school can sign up for the Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide Training program and prepare for entry-level careers in nursing homes and hospitals. The program is also for students who want to go to nursing school. As part of the program, students take part in a 140-hour course that is made up of 75 hours of classroom time and 65 hours of clinical practice. Throughout the program, students learn about long-term, home health and acute care. Students finish the training by passing an examination.
Greenfield Community College
This Greenfield school has a Home Health Aide Training program, which prepares students for employment in hospices, home care settings, private homes and assisted living centers. The training involves 80 hours of classroom and practicum lessons. Students learn about the health care delivery models and resources for the elderly. By the end of the program, students are eligible for the home health aide examination.
Massasoit Community College
Located in Brockton, this public school has a Home Health Aide Certification program for students who are new to the home health field. The training program requires 100 hours of study, which includes classroom and direct experience. Students can focus on three career areas that cover homemaker, personal care homemaker and full home health aide. Throughout the training, students learn how to provide professional care services for the elderly and mentally ill.
North Shore Community College
Students who enroll at this Danvers college can earn a Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide Certificate. The entire program requires 100 hours of training that include classroom and direct practice hours. Lessons focus on vital signs, bed making, personal care, record keeping and emergency response. Students must pass an examination to complete the training and receive the certificate.
