The Florida Department of Health (www.doh.state.fl.us) states that to earn a licensee in Florida, applicants must have at least a bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, human nutrition, dietetics or food management. They must also have 900 hours of supervised pre-professional experience in dietetics or nutrition and pass the dietitian exam.

The College of Human Sciences at Florida State University in Tallahassee offers a variety of cutting-edge degree programs in the field of nutrition. Learners can select from a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition, a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, a Master of Science in Nutrition and Food Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nutrition and Food Science with an emphasis in human sciences. Undergraduate students can gain nutrition experience by working in community, food service and medical agencies. Graduate students can complete a dietetic internship or fellowships and assistantships. The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville is committed to providing students with professional nutrition skills that allow them to contribute to their communities. Students can select from a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics or a Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. Through the undergraduate program, students explore health and society, food fundamentals, human nutrition, community nutrition and nutrition therapy. They also complete an internship and prepare for the registered dietitian exam. The master's degree program is designed for registered dietitians who select from a thesis or a non-thesis option. Course topics include nutrition education and counseling, clinical nutrition, advanced nutrition concepts, metabolism and methods of nutrition assessment.
