Established in 1898, Northeastern University is a private university located in downtown Boston that enrolls over 27,000 students. Northeastern University provides nine colleges and schools that offer bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in various disciplines. Northeastern was one of 15 other colleges to earn Princeton Review's 2010 Green Rating Honor Roll designation. The school also founded the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment initiative to reduce greenhouse emissions at colleges around the U.S. in 2007.

University of Massachusetts - Boston
Founded in 1964, the University of Massachusetts - Boston (UMass Boston) is the only public university in the city. The University of Massachusetts - Boston merged with Boston State College in 1982. UMass Boston offers more than 190 programs of study and enrolls over 15,000 students.
