Degree at the University of Tampa

The University of Tampa's Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance offers degrees in public health, athletic training, exercise science and allied health. The allied health degree program allows students to concentrate their studies in medical science, physical or occupational therapy. In addition to tuition and books, OT students will incur costs to cover professional organization membership, immunizations and transportation to clinical locations.

Bachelor of Science in Allied Health with a Concentration in Occupational Therapy Sciences

The bachelor's degree in allied health program requires students to complete 65 semester hours in courses such as health sciences, medical terminology, nutrition, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, chemistry, psychology and statistics. The OT concentration requires an additional 30 semester hours in coursework that includes abnormal psychology, physical education and fitness, adulthood and aging, child psychology and physics. The bachelor's degree courses prepare students for a graduate degree program in OT.

Polk State's Winter Haven campus offers an associate degree program for students planning a career as an occupational therapy assistant. Before participating in this school's first fieldwork exercise, students must become certified in CPR and AIDS, as well as complete 11 credit hours of classes.

The associate degree program for occupational therapy assistants includes coursework in kinesiology, functional anatomy, physical dysfunction, pediatric occupational therapy and therapeutic modalities.
