Tucson Paralegal Programs

Two paralegal programs are available at a school located about five minutes from downtown Tucson. This article covers the required general education and major coursework at the institution. It also includes a table of additional facts and figures about the college.

  • Pima Community College, a public, 2-year community college, is the only school within 50 miles of Tucson that has a paralegal program. Situated just three miles from the downtown area, it offers an associate's degree and a post-degree certificate in paralegal studies.

Pima Community College

The American Bar Association has approved Pima Community College's paralegal degree and certificate programs. These programs prepare students for employment by providing training in legal research, the drafting of legal documents and case management. Classes are offered during the day, in the evenings and on weekends.

Paralegal Associate of Applied Science

This 2-year, 66-credit degree program includes core coursework in civil litigation procedures, legal research, ethics, evidence, legal writing and computer-assisted legal research. Students also take support courses in accounting, computer fundamentals, government and politics, national and state constitutions, public speaking and writing. General education requirements in the humanities, social science, math and critical thinking must be fulfilled for the degree.

Students are permitted to choose electives ranging from subjects such as trusts and estates, tort law, wills and criminal law to family, bankruptcy, administrative, corporate and real estate law. An optional internship may be taken during the final semester.

Paralegal Post-Degree Certificate

This streamlined program is designed for students looking for paralegal training who already have an associate's or bachelor's degree in another area. The 42-credit curriculum includes the same core and elective paralegal courses as the associate's degree program, including the internship option.
