Programs at Ivy Tech Community College - Central Indiana
Ivy Tech Community College is a 2-year public school with 31 branch campuses located throughout the state of Indiana. Students enrolled at the Central Indiana campus can pursue degree and certificate programs in several different areas, including office administration, human services, accounting, criminal justice and paralegal studies. Two associate's degree programs are available in paralegal studies and both are offered on-campus and online.
Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies
The Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies program prepares students for employment after graduation and teaches them to conduct legal research, write reports, interview clients and execute other duties required of paralegals. Students must complete a minimum of 63 credits. Courses cover topics in civil procedure, tort law, legal ethics, contracts, litigation and legal writing.
Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies
The Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies program is designed for students who are interested in transferring to a 4-year university. When compared to the AAS degree, this program requires students to complete additional general education requirements and fewer paralegal-related courses. However, students do receive an introduction to paralegal studies and take courses in civil procedure and legal research.
Programs at Ball State University
Ball State University is a 4-year public school in Muncie, Indiana. The school offers about 180 majors and 130 minors in various fields. Areas of study include public relations, social work, political science, marketing, criminal justice, human resources and more. The legal studies program offers the option of concentrating in public law or business law.
Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies
Ball State University's bachelor's degree program in legal studies prepares students for employment as legal assistants or paralegals. All legal studies students take courses on American government and law, estate planning, litigation and state and family law. Students who select the public law option take courses on media law, criminal law and public policy, while those studying business law enroll in classes that cover business statistics, labor law and land use administration. Graduates also have the option to continue their education in law school.
