Jefferson Community and Technical College

Jefferson Community and Technical College is the largest school in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. To participate in its paramedic certificate program, students must hold Kentucky or NREMT basic EMT certification. The program is approved by both the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS) and the U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Training.

Paramedic Technology Certificate

This is a 44-49 credit program that includes studies in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and dosage calculations. Students participate in clinical practicum and field experience classes. Successful completion of this program qualifies the student to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians - Paramedic (NREMT-P) exam.

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College

Prospective students need either NREMT-B or Kentucky EMT certification to be eligible for this program.

Associate in Applied Science in Paramedic Technology

Once the program has been completed, students are eligible to take the NREMT-P exam. The program is 60-67 credits long and includes clinical practicum, classroom study and a field experience. Technical studies cover medical terminology and paramedic advanced emergency care topics. Paramedics who currently hold state or national certification can be awarded up to 35 of the required 41-44 technical course credits for professional experience, which includes the field experience and clinical practicum portion of the program.

Other School Options

Spalding University, located in downtown Louisville, offers an Associate in Applied Science in Paramedical Medicine completion program. This allows students who have already finished an approved paramedic program to earn this degree by completing general education courses.
