Pennsylvania EMT Certification Program Overviews
Numerous programs are available throughout Pennsylvania that helps prepare students to take and pass one of the Pennsylvania Department of Health's emergency medical technician (EMT) certification exams. Some of these programs culminate in a certificate of completion or associate's degree, but the status as an EMT-Basic or EMT-Paramedic requires additional credentials from state and national organizations.
Northampton Community College's EMT Certification Programs
Located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the Northampton Community College is one of the largest schools in the state to offer EMT certification programs. In addition to various associate's degree programs, the school offers a diverse selection of youth and adult continuing education programs.
EMT/First Responder Certification Course
This continuing education course is available as a credit or non-credit class, covering all the basic information needed for initial and re-certification of basic-level EMTs. Students in this program will cover CPR, hospital preparation, fractures, patient transportation, traumatic injuries and other hands-on tasks necessary to working as an EMT. Evaluation and prioritization of sick and injured persons is a part of this semester-long course, which typically meets twice a week for three hours.
Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Services Technology
This associate's degree program prepares students for entry into a variety of health services careers, particularly as an EMT. In addition to courses on emergency medical procedures, students can tailor the program to their unique educational goals, including firefighting, EMT training, management or safety inspection. This 62-credit program is free to anyone in service with an approved Northampton County Emergency Unit.

Delaware County Community College's EMT Certification Programs
With two campuses and three outreach centers, the Delaware County Community College (DCCC) serves the Delaware, Chester and surrounding of Pennsylvania with various EMT training programs. In operation since 1967, DCCC has its main campus in Media, Pennsylvania and provides accredited diplomas, certificates and associate's degrees.
EMT Competency Certificate
This 31-credit-hour program in emergency medical services serves as an introductory course to careers as member of a pre-hospital treatment team. Emphasis in this certificate program is placed on the care and safety of the patients, care providers and the rest of the pre-hospital team. Courses are varied, covering incident management, anatomy, basic lifesaving techniques and technical communications.
Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Management
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Emergency Management focuses on careers involved in the control of natural, provoked or accidental disasters. The core program combines various general education, social science, terrorism and emergency management course. This program gives students three different options for specialization, including an emergency medical technician concentration. The EMT concentration focuses 22 credits on airway management, patient care techniques, math for nurses, and human anatomy.
