Personal Trainer Certificate Program at Kennesaw State University

KSU offers its personal trainer certificate program through its College of Continuing and Professional Education. In addition to the personal trainer program, the college also offers a lifestyle and weight management consultant certificate program and health and fitness specialist course for advanced learners.

Personal Trainer Certificate

The personal trainer certificate program is four months in length and includes both in-class instruction and practical training in KSU's fitness centers. Students are taught the fundamentals of human anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition and the integrated fitness training model. Aspiring trainers also learn how to incite motivation and behavioral changes by creating client rapport. The final component of the program requires students to design a customized exercise program for a potential client. Completing the program will help students prepare for ACE's CPT exam, which results in an official personal trainer certification. Once students have earned the certificate, they must contact ACE to purchase one of three exam bundles, which can be found on the ACE's website.

In order to be admitted to the program, prospective students must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent, have a general knowledge of computers and the internet and complete the MLCC Skills Assessment. The skills assessment and the application to the program must be completed online. Students may apply to begin in either January or August.

The College of Continuing and Professional Education does offer financial aid to its students through a few sources, including loans and employer education vouchers, but is unable to award federal financial aid. This program's tuition includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training from the American Heart Association. No career counseling or job placements services are available, but local employers do periodically look to KSU for potential employees.
