Listed below are six private not-for-profit and public colleges that offer phlebotomy programs in Florida.
Eastern Florida State College
Formerly known as Brevard Community College, this school in Cocoa offers a 16-week phlebotomy program. The school only admits a limited number of applicants to the program. Students learn about blood collection, phlebotomy equipment and medical terminology. They also participate in 10 weeks of clinical practice. Graduates are eligible for certification exams.
D.A. Dorsey Educational Center
Situated in Miami, this educational center offers a phlebotomy training program. Students complete 165 hours of coursework in phlebotomy and healthcare issues. The full-time program takes about two months to complete. The school's website does not mention preparation for certification exams.
Marion County Community Technical and Adult Education Center
This educational center is located in Ocala and offers two phlebotomy programs. The first is a general program that has 165 hours of training. Students learn about basic first aid, CPR and phlebotomy procedures. Students also complete clinical experiences to help them learn about venipunctures and capillary punctures. The second phlebotomy program specifically prepares students for certification exams. It is an advanced program that is only available to those who have completed prior phlebotomy training.
Pasco-Hernandez Community College
This community college offers a phlebotomy certificate program at New Port Richey, Dade City and Brooksville. The full-time program takes one semester to complete, and students take part in lectures, labs and clinical courses. They learn about infection control, hepatitis and the circulatory system. The community college's website does not mention that students are prepared for certification eligibility requirements.
Technical Education Center - Osceola
Located in Kissimmee, this education center offers a 165-hour phlebotomy program. Students learn about CPR, infection control, first aid, phlebotomy procedures and phlebotomy equipment. Graduates of the program should meet certification requirements.
Winter Park Tech
Located in Winter Park and Orlando, this school offers a 165-hour program in phlebotomy. Students learn about CPR, safe phlebotomy procedures and specimen preparation. Graduates are prepared to complete the National Healthcare Association certification exams.
