Delta State University
Delta State University in Cleveland offers a bachelor's degree in fine arts program with a concentration in photography. This concentration prepares students to work as artists and emphasizes technique and mastery of craft. The program covers subjects such as darkroom, silver-based and color photography, digital video, digital photography, motion graphics and animation. Facilities include a fully equipped traditional darkroom and digital lab. Courses cover documentary photography, experimental cameras, alternative photographic processes, studio lighting and large format photography. All art students must pass a portfolio review before they can take upper-level courses.
Jackson's Millsap College has photography classes as part of its community enrichment program. Classes offered include beginning photography, digital photo editing and alternative processes/digital negatives. The beginning photography class is a 4-week course that covers camera control, equipment, composition, exposure and digital photography. The editing of photographs using Adobe Photoshop Elements is covered in the digital photo editing course. The alternative process class teaches students different processes, such as cyanotype and platinum/palladium, to produce negatives.
Mississippi State University
Located near Starkville, Mississippi State University offers a bachelor's degree in art program with a concentration in photography. This 123-credit-hour program emphasizes the development of a personal style of photography. Students explore a variety of techniques, materials and ways of self-expression. They learn about topics such as alternative photography, digital photography labs, daylight processes and color. This concentration is also available for Bachelor of Fine Arts students. Mississippi University for Women
Mississippi University for Women in Columbus offers a photography emphasis in its bachelor's degree program in studio art. University of Mississippi
The University of Mississippi in Oxford has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art program with a concentration in photography/imaging arts. Students are taught basic technical skills in photography, such as F-stops, exposure and depth of field. University of Southern Mississippi
