Degrees at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography

Students at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design typically take the same foundation year. The coursework begins to diverge in the sophomore year for students based on majors. For a photography major, the sophomore year is typically spent studying historic perspectives, printing processes, lighting and elements of digital photography. Once in the junior year, students move onto learning about photographic voice, photographic problems and professional practices. At the end of the program, an internship, a thesis and final project have to be completed prior to graduation.

The introduction to photography course here covers print presentation and printmaking techniques, SLR camera handling, chemical processing and film exposure. At the end of the program, a final review class goes over everything that students should have learned through the program.
